Providing an art experience for after-school elementary students was a joint project of ArtFest Fort Myers, Edison State College and three pilot elementary schools. ArtFest provided funding, Edison State College student teachers provided the artistic supervision and inspiration and Heights, Villas and Tropic Isles Elementary Schools were the proving ground for a very successful first year program. “We were so pleased to give approximately 120 students a fabulous after-school opportunity to explore the arts during the spring semester,” said Sharon McAllister, ArtFest Executive Director. Holiday themed crafts, mask making, journaling, and creating rain sticks were just a few of the projects that children enjoyed. Pictured is Edison State College student teacher, Lyndsey Kelly with one of her after school artists.

Find out what inspires them and learn about their techniques. Unique sculpture, original oils, vibrant watercolor, dazzling jewelry, decorative ceramics, glittering glass, imaginative mixed media, fabulous metal, vivid photography, wonderful wood and remarkable fiber created by 200 talented artists provide something for everyone’s collection and budget. The quality of art is extraordinary, as only the best of the best are invited, after a panel of independent artists reviewed the work of the artists who applied for the festival.
Exciting components of ArtFest Fort Myers include:

- The art of bringing fun and fitness together is our specialty as we work with Art of the Olympians to get our families moving. Demonstrations with lots of audience participation will have everyone hopping.
- Have you been wondering if your youngster has a calling to be a violin virtuoso or a trumpet player in the marching band? The Southwest Florida Symphony will be on hand with their Petting Zoo, and getting bit by the music bug is your only worry. A variety of musical instruments will be available for all to play, with expert instruction on hand, courtesy of the Youth Symphony members
- Art experiences are “going to ground level” as we bring street chalk painting to ArtFest. Four local high schools teams plus two professional chalk art artists will be creating oversized art pieces over festival weekend.

“We are very proud to be recognized for our efforts in bringing residents, visitors and fabulous artists to our community,” said Sharon McAllister, ArtFest Fort Myers Executive Director. “Art and cultural experiences are an important and integral part of this area’s quality of life and our event clearly brings a diversity of people together in celebration of the arts.”
“We could not have won this honor without the support of our many media partners, headed up by The News-Press, WINK-TV, and Florida Weekly or the Tourist and Development Council, who has been a steadfast supporter our mission. Janine Giovinazzi Vitanza, dzine studio, is the talented designer who works with us each year to create the ArtFest Fort Myers marketing materials. The success of our efforts is the result of the teamwork of many dedicated community members!”
